RioJAZZ4

Morten Ankarfeldt’s first album with Caio Marcio Dos Santos was released last year (2014). It was a stellar collaboration on Brazilian-colored jazz. They have continued as co-workers and Morten Ankarfeldt has expanded the group with a fellow Danish musician. Alto saxophonist Christina von Bülow is a prefect match to the two who have furthermore included Brazilian drummer and percussionist Cassius Theperson. With RioJAZZ4 we are going on a journey from which we do not want to return. Christina von Bülow has great experience with Brazilian sound. Her lyrical alto holds both some Stan Getz and Nordic in its tone. It is a natural and perfect match to Caio Marcio Dos Santos’ acoustic guitar. When she supplements on flute, as on the track Lamentos do Morro, she adds yet another level to the already beautiful sound of the group.

The musical style is samba, chorro and bossa mixed with a good portion of Nordic jazz feel. Ankarfeldt and Santos have excelled their collaboration and the expansion with von Bülow and Therperson to the group is well received. Something new has evolved from their solid debut record. A good development with beautiful tunes such as Ankarfeldt’s Bonde Xaxado on which Peter Rosendal guests playing melodica.
